Unleashing our #immersive #future - with a new era of Mixed Reality 🌐✨Opening our Quest store was big news yesterday, but that was just the beginning. We are changing the mixed reality landscape with the introduction of Meta #Horizon #OS and a robust new hardware ecosystem. Expect features that enhance social presence, scene understanding, and spatial navigation.🔹 #Open #Ecosystem: We areopening its doors to third-party hardware makers, fostering a more diverse and accessible platform. This initiative promises to expand consumer choices and provide developers with new avenues to showcase their applications.🔹 #Partnerships and #Hardware Innovations:- ASUS and Lenovo are crafting devices that merge cutting-edge gaming and productivity with immersive mixed reality.- Xbox collaboration continues, bringing cloud gaming experiences into new dimensions.🔹 Expanding #Developer #Opportunities: The transformation of the Meta Quest Store into the Meta Horizon Store, alongside a more open app ecosystem, means developers can more easily reach audiences and monetise their creations.🔹 Future #Prospects: With support from industry giants like Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 Platform enhances the capabilities of our mixed reality devices, setting new standards for performance and interactivity, and leverage the full power of #ai.We are just 1% finished!#TechTrends #MixedReality #MetaHorizonOS #Innovation

👉 I'm sure all my #XR peers have already heard about this and have their own opinions, but for what it's worth, here's my two cents! 💲💲 1. Opening the OS to other developers is a great strategy to encourage innovation in hardware, while keeping hold of the reins. It's worked for Google with the Android ecosystem, and I can see it working for Meta just as well.2. Having HMDs optimised for specific types experiences is something that I've been thinking about for a while - especially when it comes to fitness. Workout apps in #VR are very popular, but for me personally I find the current crop of HMDs far too uncomfortable to actually concentrate on the workout. Using this example, it will be good to see new headsets designed for specific purposes utilising the software we're all familiar with.3. The potential negatives? A flood of hardware coming to market, struggling for space whilst confusing the consumer. I'm sure many of us remember the WMR range - how many of those headsets managed to get any kind of traction? Yes, the market has grown since then, but in the same respect that means many of the potential consumers have already chosen their allegiances.4. Further to this, while Meta will keep control of the software, there's nothing to stop hardware manufacturers (as far as I can see) creating HMDs of a lesser quality. I'm not suggesting we're going back to the Google Cardboard days, but there is potential for poorly produced HMDs to burn consumers. That's my top-level thoughts. Essentially, I think it's a great step, but not without potential pitfalls. 🤔👇👇 Let me know what you're all thinking!👇👇

Frankly, I'm quite surprised they weren't collecting this data already. Apparently they've only been collecting "the data required for your Meta Quest to work properly."There's both positives and negatives to this of course. Firstly the positive: Meta is an analytics company at heart. The the same way that they've made Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp et al 'better' by analysing user data, they can offer better experiences in #XR through understanding more about how people actually use the hardware and software. The negative is of course privacy concerns. Meta states repeatedly that the data it collects "is anonymized so it does not identify you." However, as an end user how could we possibly know this is true? There have been many cases in the past where such promises have actually ended up with data that could easily be connected to an identifiable individual.

Meta has officially launched the Quest 3S, which offers 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 of $299.99. Committed to making MR technology available to everyone, the #Quest3S comes equipped with the latest #Meta Horizon OS updates, transforming it into a powerful virtual home theater, an immersive gaming device, and a social hub for connecting with friends.🎮 Exciting new gaming titles like Batman, Triangle Strategy, and Just Dance VR are included, offering a rich tapestry of experiences for gamers of all levels. 🤸♂️ Fitness enthusiasts can engage in Supernatural's group workouts, making staying active more interactive and social. The headset also supports applications that overlay holograms onto the physical world, 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲.In addition to the Quest 3S, Meta introduced Orion—the most advanced full holographic #AR glasses—and the new Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, featuring a sleek, straightforward design and partnerships like Be My Eyes to enhance accessibility. This launch underscores Meta's unwavering commitment to #innovation by delivering cutting-edge technologies and making them 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞. Whether you're new to mixed reality or seeking a top-of-the-line experience with 512GB storage and 4K resolution, Meta has you covered.Compared to competitors like Apple's Vision Pro—which is significantly higher priced and offers a premium experience—Meta's approach focuses on affordability without compromising advanced features. It aims to democratize mixed reality by providing high-quality devices at a fraction of the cost and making #MR technology more accessible to a broader audience.🤔 However, as the #mixedreality market continues to evolve, will Apple move to compete more directly in this still immature market, or is its strategy entirely different, aiming for a value proposition that goes beyond current offerings?#MetaConnect2024

Meta just announced a brand new pair of mixed reality glasses that they've been working on. I believe that devices like this represent the next computing form factor and that the shift to using technology like this will completely change the world, just like the smartphone did.Meta's headset is currently just a prototype and it's a few years off from being consumer ready but it is an extremely clear indication of where this technology is heading next. The way we interact with computers is going to change. It’s not a matter of if, but when.#metaconnect #meta #mixedreality #ar #xr

I like how Meta is progressively building the rails of a potential Metaverse. To their intelligent approach to #AI and spatial computing, Meta joins the launching of Android of #AR/#VR Devices to third party devices makers.Meta opens its mixed reality operating system, Meta Horizon OS that powers Meta Quest headsets to other hardware makers, aiming to expand the ecosystem like #Android did with #mobile.https://lnkd.in/dhxhEFfW
